Okay, I’m not going to talk about food addiction. I get it. My cigarette blog proved to be very controversial and I had many people ask me about it. One reaction I received was OUCH. Some asked me if I smoked. Someone joked about me thinking I was an expert just because I had 37 days under my belt.
For starters, no I do not smoke. I also do not think I am an expert on addiction. I am however very ‘seasoned’ when speaking about addiction. I’ve been through professional treatment programs and I’m a very good listener. I am also very passionate about chemical dependency. I miraculously pulled out of a 2 year cocaine addiction that almost killed me, I quit smoking after 13 years, and I am now battling alcoholism and I’m on day 38. I may not be an expert, but I will say I’ve come a long way and I’m confident that I can offer useful advice. I would much rather hire someone with experience than someone who learned it only from a textbook.
The reason I spoke so bleak about smoking is because I have very close loved ones who have cried out to me and asked for help to quit. They also have made comments on my blogs about how the honesty in the blogs are helping them. I took my interpretation and wrote a brutally honest eye opening smoking post, so sue me.
I do love feedback from people. I enjoy reading the comments more than writing some days. It’s neat to see people using metaphors and debating live in the comments. I love constructive criticism and advice so bring it. Please add comments and if you are not comfortable you can leave them anonymous.

Wow. That long with cocaine, huh. How did you get started? Was it a one-time thing at a party and then, pow! ADDICTED. Was it slow and steady gets addicted? My students always ask about the process of addiction when we study it. By the way, you are a great expert on addiction and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Love ya.
I totally agree with you, Big sis. 13 years of smoking, a drug addiction, alcoholism, etc. Survivor is the perfect person to give advice on quitting some pretty nasty addictions. And I love that on your blogs, Survivor, you aren't telling people, "Hey, quit your addictions. It's not that hard. Just do it." Instead you are outlining a thorough and effective game plan with such a realistic plan of attack. Smoking and lung cancer go hand in hand & is a harsh killer. If one of the people we love most in this world is putting him/herself in direct line of this fatal cancer, why wouldn't we offer suggestions, a plan of attack? I love your many ideas--if I were a smoker I would 100% use your method to quit. It's brilliant. Anyway, if you have more advice, give it!!!! We all have addictions of some sort and you are right, as you said on a previous blog, if we have to "hide" something then it probably isn't good for us. Awesome point. 38th day. . .THAT is unbelievably exciting.
I disagree with you Survivor; You said you wouldn't talk about food addiction, because you had some controversial comments on smoking. You absolutely hit someone's nerve. That was probably a defense mechanism. Sorry I had to say that. I personally would love to read your blog on food addictions. The last time I quit smoking I gained '30' lbs. in a month. I have no self control. So I say bring it on. Because if you can help but one person by blogging then you have done your job. Good Lord willing that person might be me. But back to you; do want your heart is telling you to do. By you pouring out your heart to all of us you are not only helping yourself but you are helping all of us. And yes, I would most definitely rather hear it from someone whose been there and done that versus reading it in a book. Luv you Survivor!
I agree with the previous comments. If - and that is a big IF - I ever choose to quit smoking I'm sure I'll come back to the recommendations you made and try to utilize them. Any advice you can offer for people to try to maintain some control in an area of their lives, well, people can take it or leave it. This is YOUR blog, YOUR story, and YOUR life so be proud, sista! MUAH!
Amen!
